Emma’s senior session at Historic Tuckahoe could not have been more beautiful. The weather was perfect. No humidity. A soft breeze. The kind of Richmond summer weather you hope for.

And, knowing that Tuckahoe is now on the market, this session feels a little bittersweet. I’ve photographed so many incredible seniors here over the years, and it’s been one of my favorite places to create portraits. I don’t know what the future holds for the property or whether I’ll get to photograph here again, which makes these images feel even more special.

Emma was a natural in front of the camera. I barely had to direct her. She moved easily from one pose to the next and somehow made everything look effortless. Her mom joined us for the session, too, and was just as lovely. I always love when parents come along and get to be part of the experience.

Emma had already graduated in May when we photographed her senior portraits, but she was getting ready for her next chapter at Bryn Mawr College. She’ll be attending as a Presidential Scholar, studying History and International Studies on a pre-law track. Safe to say, she has some big things ahead.

We started in the garden with a bold red dress. The color against the greenery was incredible. We made our way to the old kitchen door, where the deep red felt right at home against the historic textures of Tuckahoe.

Then came the black dress. We found bunches of bright yellow flowers and a pink-blooming crape myrtle that made the perfect backdrop.

We finished on the field just as the sun started to set. Emma changed into a soft pastel floral dress, and the whole session came together in the most beautiful way. The light behind her was warm and hazy. The sky was beginning to turn. Exactly the kind of ending you hope for.

This session was full of everything I love about photographing seniors at Tuckahoe—beautiful gardens, historic details, changing light, and enough variety to make every part of the gallery feel completely different.

I’m really grateful we got to create these portraits here. A little bittersweet, but a beautiful way to remember a place that has been such a special part of my work.

And Emma? She made my job very easy.

I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes her.
