I have been super blessed to be a part of some amazing projects in our community since moving to Richmond in 2016.

Mending Walls is an Emmy Award winning public art project that brings together public artists from different cultures and backgrounds to create murals that address where we are now in society and how we can move forward through understanding and collaboration. Mending Walls pairs up artists of different backgrounds to create unique connections and give them an opportunity to tell their story collaboratively in an effort to express healing through connection. In this moment we all are searching for more understanding and this project will serve as a tool that would fuel connection through story telling. Our hope is to bring about healing through public art while adding something meaningful to the conversations. The central theme of the project is “Transcending Walls.” This theme will serve as a north star as we work with artists and community members to build empathy and connection across the walls that divide us. Throughout the process, our aim is to transcend walls that are physical, social, personal, and systemic.
I have been honored to be the lead photographer through out all three years of the Mending Walls Project! You can see my work below. I also had the honor to create a coffee table book with the most amazing team of Sara Marsden & Hamilton Glass with our awesome publisher, Ward Teft of KnowHow Books (formerly Chop Suey).

In 2017 I created a project called Dancers of RVA, during my time working on this creative collaboration I photographed & shared the stories of over a 100 dancers in the Richmond, VA area. The concept was to photograph a dancer in a space and place they loved in RVA then share their dance journey on a blog. The project gained national attention when Shootproof wrote an article about it! Then months later project landed the cover of the SPRING of 2019 Richmond GRID. The community embraced this project and it connected so many dancers who otherwise would not have known one another. In 2020, Dancers of RVA and I was honored with Best Digital Content at the RVA Dance Awards!
In February of 2022 Kat, representing Richmond Va & Mending Walls was chosen as the international illustrator for the Global theme of MONUMENTAL. Kat’s work was featured and highlighted in all chapters of Creative Mornings all over the world for the February theme of Monumental. Kat’s photography for the Mending Walls project was also featured.
